The Dus-T: A Good Shirt for Desert Hiking
A few years ago, I was on a backpacking trip in Canyonlands, Utah. On the second day, a strong sand storm moved in. It was so powerful that it turned the entire sky red and even snapped one of my friend's tent poles like a toothpick! The most annoying thing was that sand was flying into our mouths and it was difficult not to breathe it in. I think I had sand in my mouth for 3 days after. I tried blocking it by putting a bandanna around my face but the wind was still pushing it in on the sides. It would havebeen nice to have had a shirt like the Dus-T.
The Dus-T basically looks like a regular shirt, except it's got a hidden dust mask in it. It fits much tighter than a bandanna and will keep the sand out if you're ever in a situation like the one above.
They offer several different styles and materials but I got white cotton one. Wait, did I just say the "C" word? Yep. In the desert, I like to wear cotton during the day because it's cooler (at night, I switch to a synthetic). I also like to wear light colors to keep the sun off so this was a natural choice for me.
If you do any desert hiking, you might want to check out Dus-Ts. The next time you're caught in a sandstorm, you won't have to put up with that annoying crunching noise in your mouth all day. Plus, you'll look like a desert ninja!

That white shirt will turn orange in no time in the desert.
Might be a good item to take for southern ends of the PCT and CDT.
I'm sure a Buff or a Spec-Ops Recon-Wrap which is the same thing would've been good for a storm like that. I'll have to test that out to see.
I have been able to use the Dus-T for over two years now and it works like no other. Regardless of color it will protect you from having to breath in all that dust in situations when you wish you had one. Just think if you didnt wear one in a dust storm how much your lungs would be filled with that orange dust. You can always wash the shirt or buy it in a different color if you're worried about it looking dirty. That Buff or Spec-Ops Recon-wrap is not a shirt that you can wear as an under shirt when hiking through brush or on cold trails, motorcyle riding, working on a job site, or on those cold morning jobs. The shirt is pretty awesome. I definitely recommend you try it. You'll fall in love with the Dus-T. I seen they had a camo line too that I cant wait to buy. I noticed they even have high-visibility and fire retardant which I can use since I weld. Such and awesome product!
DUS-T is a shirt you will love the first time you try it and it will become the best defense you have against Mother Natures unpredictable way...i have 20 in my closet and hardly wear anything else anymore, take a chance and try one yourself!
Being in a hot environment is the best time to layer your clothing, leaving your persperation from evaporating, it gets trapped in the layers and you loose less water from your body. This is proven anywhere hot over centuries like places in the middle east. Do yourselves a favor and wear a sweater on a 100 degree day and stay alive. Staying covered up also helps defend against the suns harsh rays, another reason for heat fatuige. This shirt looks like the answer to staying alive in the desert, especially when the hot days turn to cold nights.
THEDUS-T has been my constant companion for the last year,and have found it to be one of my most prized possessions. I wear one almost daily, as a rancher, ceramic artist, outdoor enthusiast I come into contact with many airborne debris which the DUS-T keeps out of my lungs. As a part time resident of Mexico I have had a the opportunity to wear it in the harshest of environments and as far as the heat goes the full face and neck protection make it possible to place one or two of those small emergency cold packs(or heat if need be) in the face pocket or back on my neck where the mask will hold it and keep me cool (or warm) for 6 to 8 hours.
I am protected from the dust, sun and heat or those cold desert nights.
I survived a burningman whiteout in my trusty DUS-T.
Once you wear this comfy t-shirt you will never wear those uncomfortable paper masks again, the DUS-T is always right where I need it when I need it!
