You can use some pretty strange things as tinder: dryer lint, jute cord, or even corn chips. This one has to be one of the most unusual. But, it works!
What's the most unusual tinder you've ever used?
How to Make Tinder from Tampons

I've been using tampons to light fires on those really wet days when nothing will take. If you don't completely destroy it when 'fluffing it' you can make what I call Tampon Bombs.
Leave the string in tact, fluff about halfway, dip the tampon in whatever fuel you have. Leave the string outside your tinder pile and light it like a fuse.
This is a great tip, Jason! And the best part is that I always have tampons with me in my emergency kit. I had never thought of using them as tinder, but thanks for "sparking" the idea :)

White gas Tampon Bombs will burn for 15-20 min.
Great idea considering a pon is the perfect size to fit inside a full size flint striker that may have a waterproof capsule attached on the end.
I like the idea of using the pons over cotton balls simply because there's more material packed into a tiny package.
I also keep a couple in my first-aid kit in case of a puncture wound. Clean and very absorbent and now a multi-use item, fire tinder.
Just add a tablespoon of petroleum jelly, put in into the folds of the fluffed tampon, light and you have a nice hot flame for about 15 minutes.
This is a new one to me.
Interesting !!
I did not know you could "fluff" one :)

Aren't some tampons made of synthetic materials? I know you have to pack them out of the woods because they are not biodegradable.
In a similar vein, we learned back in the Scouts that a sanitary napkin made a great and lightweight item to stop bleeding.
