Some good points there Jason. In England you would be called a Grumpy Old Man. (Well I am). Some of the forum comments I have seen on other forums have been almost unreadable.
I didnt realize you were a teacher. I just resigned at Christmas after 21 years as a Maths and Technology teacher. The job over here has become almost unbearable.
You shuld realy use a diferent camera for makeing your videos, like the one I sell at my site. Where's te best place to buy batteries in my town?

Lol..Jason, the shameless hucksters are my favorites. Even better is when they start their post with:
"My friend bought me (insert item) and wow!!!! what an awesome (insert item). He found it (insert obscure website address) and I went there and they are running a 2 for 1 deal. I hear they have great customer service!"
Yeah.....I hit "report" on those posts.
In all honesty if they would just say "Hi, I have started this business and want to come take a look?" it wouldn't bother me!
I generally like your site, always love your technical ideas, and overall think you're a good guy, and very smart to boot. However....I found this one to be hilarious, especially the spell-checker rant. Being a spelling bee winner, I don't use spell checkers, but I'm skeptical that spell checkers will really flag "advise" as needing to be changed to "advice" in your example. Both are words, and if the software is now context sensitive, how does it know the context well enough not to assume "advise" is correct and the rest of the sentence is ill-formed? Such as "I want advice about" vs "I want to advise you about", or whatever. Oh, and by the way, the video on your current cooking setup, posted quite a while ago, still lists one of the components as a "Pot Stant". People who live in glass houses....

Thanks for catching that. I've corrected the typo. My "rant" was really aimed more at the chronic offenders rather than those that make the occasional spelling mistake. Nonetheless, I'm not trying to squirm my way out of this one--you got me fair and square! It was only a matter of time!
You have a good point about the spell check. People use it in lieu of proofreading (for which there really is no substitute). Imagine the days before word processors, email, and White Out when one had to choose every word carefully before committing it to parchment with a quill pen and ink well. I think technology has allowed us become lazy with our writing since text is so disposable these days. It’s kind of sad in a way.
I’m not suggesting that everyone strive to become an expert grammarian or spelling-bee champ—just that we give a little more thought and care to our words out of respect for fellow readers, ourselves, and the English language.
Nice rant. The broad question complaint is my personal favorite. People seem to ask them about tents and packs most often.

You should change your name to "Reality"
I want that Law and Order "Ka-Chung" sound effect. That would make everything so much better. Hell, not even in any videos I make. I just want it to follow me around, so that whenever I make an astute observation at work, I can hear that "Ka-Chung" and then there will be a fade to black.
Oh and also I want to be Sam Waterston.

Nice rant! My biggest forum rant is also the reason I don't ask questions or post any answers on forums anymore. The rude and condescending posters. Specifically quite a large number of posters can make it feel like UL backpacking is this little men's club that if you're not a guy and haven't been backpacking for years and years then you're just dumb and in the way. Although they aren't the only ones, there is the all famous "this question was asked already and you should look at the original thread instead of asking yet again." Never mind it was asked three years ago and the thread is long since buried. The rude and condescending poster is everywhere, never has anything useful to say and makes you feel like dirt for asking anything and runs a lot of people off forums, not just backpacking ones.
